A Better Way to Spend Mother’s Day #SocialBlackout

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for MetLife. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.

If you’re like me you’re online throughout the day, almost every day. You have your laptop in front of you for a couple hours and your smart phone in your hand must of the rest of the day.

I’ll admit that I feel like I have to “check in” online often. Whether it’s checking messages on Facebook or Tweeting out to friends and followers, I’m on social media a lot.

So when I heard about Social Blackout, I thought it was a great idea.

MetLife has come up with an awesome way to show Mothers how important they are on their special day – Social Blackout.  We’ll put away our smart phones and close the laptop. Concentrate on Mother’s Day and enjoy that special time. Be present and excited all day about our little ones and how much they love us.

Doesn’t it sound nice?

MetLife SocialBlackout Mother's Day

My kids are young and love the idea of giving me presents, so we spend much of Mother’s Day every year making cards and doing crafts for me. My younger daughter will ask me how to spell the words on the card she’s making, but still thinks the message will be a surprise. It’s adorable and sweet and I love it.

This year, the cards are already being stacked on the kitchen table and gifts have been wrapped. I’m so excited about spending the day with my husband and kids. It means so much to them and their love for me means more than anything else in the world.

I’m thrilled to be planning to spend the day with my family and to take a break from social media. A break from work, a break from chatting and a break from constantly checking in.

I hope you’ll join me for SocialBlackout this Mother’s Day, May 12th. Enjoy that precious time with your family and enjoy your day!

Be sure to visit MetLife on Facebook to RSVP and let us know you’re joining us!

Wish I could say that I participated in the Social Blackout, but I didn’t. I was alone on Mother’s Day and if I had not been on my laptop, I think I would have spent the day crying.  So glad you were able to participate and hope you had a great day!
