You’re surely familiar with Newman’s Own products, but have you ever heard of Newman’s Own Organics?
Newman’s Own Organics
Newman’s Own Organics was started in 1993 by Nell Newman, Paul Newman’s daughter. She and business partner Peter Meehan realized that there was a market for organic snack foods and began creating a more delicious line of organic snacks than others on the market. Beginning with pretzels in 1993, the company has now grown to include many lines of organic products, including coffee, tea, organic dried fruit, pet food and more.
Newman’s Own Organic has definitely taken organic food to a whole new level from what I used to think of when I heard “organic food”. Look at the selection of their products I got to sample over the last couple of weeks.
These are three of the ten different varieties of pretzels available now. We love them all, but my favorite is the Unsalted Rounds. They’re thick and crunchy and really good.
The Organic Raisins and Cranberries are so flavorful and delicious! I haven’t had dried fruit in a while and I really like it. I’ll definitely want to buy more of these for myself and for healthy snacks for the kids.
There are also lots of amazing organic treats of the sweet kind. Premium organic chocolate from the Signature Series Line includes Chocolate Bars (here) and Chocolate Cups (next photo). These chocolate products are all created from some of the finest Certified Organic chocolate on Earth, made from cocoa beans grown on Rainforest Alliance Certified™ farms.
The USDA Organic Seal assures that at least 95% of the ingredients are organically certified.
The Rainforest Alliance Certified™ seal on Newman’s Own Organic Chocolate guarantees that the cocoa used was grown on farms that meet comprehensive standards. These standards include sustainable farming, soil protection, waterway and wildlife habitat as well as the welfare and rights of the workers, their families and communities.
One of the biggest surprises for me was the licorice. I haven’t eaten it since I was a kid because I didn’t care for flavors of the typical red or black kinds. But this licorice is completely different. With fresh fruity and fun sour flavors, the Newman’s Own Organic licorice was a completely different treat. I loved all of the fruity flavors, especially the Sour flavors and the Strawberry. My husband was happy that he got the black licorice all to himself!
The cookies are soooooo good. The Fig Newman’s are really good – even better than the fig cookies I remember as a child. The Family Recipe cookies are awesome, with lots of big chunks in the chocolate chip cookies and a crisp cinnamon flavor in the Alphabet Cookies. And the Newman-O’s are yummy sandwich cookies that come in 6 flavors so good that they got their own Ode:
Ode to Newman-O’s
You might, m’lady tweak my nose.
You could, m’lord step on my toes.
But Heaven help those poor bozos,
who try to filch my Newman-O’s
The mints are all in fun, brightly colored tins and come in four flavors: Cinnamon, Ginger, Peppermint and Wintergreen. My husband has been loving the Cinnamon and I’ve been enjoying the others. I really wish I’d known about the Ginger when I was pregnant with my son. I was so sick and Ginger was one of the only things that helped. I would have loved having Organic Ginger Candies to suck on and settle my stomach!
The little tins are actually the first time the exterior packaging didn’t have the familiar American Gothic style logo and I really love them. I’m saving my tins to keep other things in. I love the colors and funky designs.
“Great tasting products that happen to be organic is our slogan…People want to know more about the food they eat, not just how many calories a product contains. It’s becoming more important to them how ingredients are grown and processed on the way to their grocers’ shelf.”
