A couple of years ago, our family used to have a weekly game night. We didn’t have a lot of games, though, and the ones that we did have were often too confusing or long for the kids to really understand and enjoy. I’ve been meaning to start up game night again for a while, but didn’t have a great game that would work for my kids’ ages.
So when we got the chance to try out Q’s Race to the Top, I thought it might be just what I was looking for.
Q’s Race to the Top is so much more than a typical board game. The questions and challenges are designed to help children work on lots of different skills while they have fun, like self control, social skills, empathy and motivation.
The kids were excited about playing as soon as we took out the brightly colored board and fun monkey player pieces.
The concept is simple enough for kids to understand and be able to play easily without getting confused or frustrated. They follow the path on the board to get to the top, drawing a card with each stop along the board.
The three different colors of cards all represent a different categories – Behavior, Social Skills and Physical Coordination.
For the Behavior and Social Skills, the kids read different scenarios and asked to talk about or explain how they should act in that situation. My kids loved being able to “have the floor” for a minute to talk about why they would act a certain way and would give examples from similar situations in their lives.
For the Physical Coordination cards, the kids read a physical activity that they were challenged to do. Some of the activities were more challenging than others, but the kids laughed and enjoyed doing all of them. I saw the other kids getting out of their seats to join the person doing the task and they would all crack up as they attempted the actions.
One of the Physical Coordination cards instructed my daughter to do the “Crab Walk” across the floor and back. The kids had a ball trying to scramble back and forth quickly with each other.
I found that even though Q’s Race to the Top was a game that the kids could play on their own, I really enjoyed playing with them or sitting nearby while they played. Some of their answers surprised me and I enjoyed hearing how they would handle so many different scenarios. Watching them play also gave me the chance to talk to them about some of the situations and to give suggestions about how to act.
EQtainment helps kids develop their emotional intelligence through fun and affordable games, storybooks, and videos. Studies have shown that a high emotional quotient can boost career success, leadership skills, health, humor, relationship satisfaction and happiness, so we love that Q’s Race to the Top helps develop those EQ skills.

Sounds like an interesting game. It always amazes me how much we influence the things our children believe, even when we think they “never” listen.
