The kids have one week left in the school year before they track out for summer. Since they go to year-round school, they’re only on summer break for 5 weeks before starting their next grade. We make sure to plan a lot of fun trips and activities during the break, but we also leave plenty of days to relax and play at home, too.
During the week, whether the kids are in school or on break for the summer, we don’t get to eat dinner together as many nights as we’d like. My husband owns his own business and often has to work late in the evenings, so I’ll sit with the kids during their dinner and then eat with him when he gets home. But every week, no matter how busy things have been, whether we’re at home during the school year or traveling as a family over the summer, we always look forward to our big family dinners on the weekends.
Saturdays are the perfect day for our big family meals. We can take time to prepare the meal together, letting the kids help us while we chat about our week. Every week, if it’s just the five of us or if we’re getting together with a larger extended family, we almost always make pasta. The kids love to put the pasta in the pot to boil, help stir the sauce, and put the salad together.
Family dinners are some of our most special times with the kids. They tell us about how school is going, we talk about upcoming trips or activities and enjoy connecting with one another. There are no tech products, no tv playing, no distractions.
Just spending quality time together as a family. It’s Saucesome! 🙂
