I have had sleep problems my entire life. My mother still tells stories about how she would find me wide awake in the middle of the night as a baby, a toddler and as a child.
As I got older, I found ways to adapt. In college, I just scheduled afternoon classes so I could sleep later in the morning after finally falling asleep late in the night. After college, I took naps after work to catch up on sleep that I didn’t get at night.
But now that I’m a mom of three young children, I can’t change my schedule during the day to allow for sleep. If I don’t get enough sleep at night, I have to go without it. And since I rarely fall asleep before 1 or 2 am, that means I almost never get enough sleep.
And it’s just not working for me.
I decided to hop onto the Walgreens website and get some advice from their pharmacy chat feature. I first looked it up online around midnight (of course I was still awake!). I assumed I’d have to try again during business hours the next day, but the pharmacy chat feature popped up and there was a rep ready to help.
I asked about sleep solutions.
The pharmacist recommended ZzzQuil and a Melatonin supplement. I then asked about the difference between just using ZzzQuil alone and she mentioned that the Melatonin might help me stay asleep longer.
I decided to give the ZzzQuil a try and headed to Walgreens the next day.
When I saw the Sleep Solutions aisle, I was glad I’d done a little research ahead of time!
I had no idea there were so many different sleep aid products! It definitely seems like a common problem if there are so many different types of products to help resolve it.
As I was looking at all of the different products, I noticed the Walgreens Answers pamphlets hanging from the shelf. I took one to see what it said.
The Answers at Walgreens pamphlet turned out to be really interesting. It had lots of information like hours of sleep people need at different ages, common reasons for sleep problems and popular ways to help relax at bedtime.
It also had information on the specific ingredients commonly used in sleep medications, which I thought was very interesting.
Based on what the pharmacist told me online, and on the Answers pamphlet, I decided to go ahead and purchase the ZzzQuil. I’ve always done well with NiQuil and even though this doesn’t contain cough or pain medicine, I hoped that the sleep medicine would work just the same.
Now I’ve got NiQuil and a cute pink eye mask to help me relax.
I’m officially ready for great sleep. Thanks, Walgreens!

What a great service! It never occurs to me to ask the pharmacist questions when I don’t have a prescription?

My daughter has problems with going to sleep due to anxiety. Her doctor did recommend 3 – 6 mg of Melatonin. She takes it about an hour before going to sleep and by the time she is ready to go to bed she zonks right out! She does sleep through the night with it. I just wanted to let you know about her experience in case you ever want to try it. 🙂
