Monkey Bars Garage Storage Systems

If you’re like me, there are a lot of areas of your life where you could use some help getting organized. For the last year, my husband and I have been making a real effort to move things out of the house when we no longer needed them. They’ve been put in the garage for sorting and will all eventually be sold, donated or thrown away.

Which sounds pretty organized, right?

Nope. Not when this is what the garage ends up looking like this:

It’s horrible. The worst part is that most of the pile is the kids’ stuff. We have three kids, so there are a lot of bikes, trikes, strollers, small chairs, etc.  If we could get those up and off of the garage floor, there would be so much more room for organizing. Then we can finally get some things sorted and moved.

We’ve been talking about needing to organize the garage for months, but didn’t want to get something too complicated to hang ourselves. It seemed like the systems we looked at were all too difficult to use, too expensive, or weren’t user-friendly at all.

And then we looked at Monkey Bars Garage Storage Systems.

Monkey Bars seemed like the perfect system for us.  Easy to install. Easy to use. Easy to adjust for different purposes by moving hooks and hangers around.

We decided to give them a try. After looking through all of the cool products on the Monkey Bars website, we ended up choosing the Grid Shelf Kit with J-Hooks and 3-inch hooks.

I thought it would be perfect for hanging all of the kids’ bikes and riding toys from. Once we get the rest of the garage organized, we can add storage bins up top like in the photos. And eventually, as the kids get older, we can hang all of our large bikes from the shelf.

When we got the box from Monkey Bars, I was so excited about putting it up. It ended up raining for 2 weekends in a row, but we were finally able to squeeze out a couple of hours of sunshine to move things out of the garage and install the Grid Shelf.

The directions said that it was a 2 person job, but my husband only needed me for one quick part. Otherwise, he was able to hang the shelf in about an hour.

It’s hard to tell, but that’s 4 bikes, 2 ride-on toys, 2 scooters, 2 folded camping chairs and 3 small stacks kids’ chairs. Those things used to take up a LOT of room on the garage floor. And we’re not even really utilizing the space up top yet! There’s a lot of room to stack 2 levels of storage containers up there. And we’ll definitely be doing that – this shelf from Monkey Bars Storage can hold up to 1,000 lbs!  

Pretty cool, huh? I’m thrilled with how easy it was to install and how awesome it is at getting our garage organized!

  3. If it’s easy to install, easy to use, and easy to adjust, it sounds like the perfect garage storage system for us.  Our garage is a mess, but I don’t want a complicated and hard to adjust system. We need something simple. Thanks for sharing about Monkey Bars.

  6. I cannot believe the transformation!  It is incredible!  This would be great to get all of our rakes, brooms, etc. out of the corner in the garage!  Every time I try to get 1, they all fall over!  🙂

  7. My garage is ten times worse than yours! I would love to give this system a try. I especially like the fact that the grid shelf can go up high and is easy to install. I would be able to put the holiday storage bins out of the way on the shelves. Love this system! 🙂

  13. Sounds really cool. I have 4 kids! 2 ‘moved’ out and 2 teens at home. I’m storing things for the olders ones and we have 5 bikes, 2 Rifts, lawn chairs, mops, brooms, tools, and still have Playhut!!!! Not to mention all the balls, scooters, and other toys. they may grow up but the junk just keeps changing!

  65. Our poor garage- NO storage. We can fit our cars in there, barely only b/c tools and stuff we don’t want in the house have been piled on the deep freezer. So you ask how do you get into the freezer? Well, I pile everything on to the hood of my car. It’s ridonkulous! These shelves and hanging bars look like something perfect for us.

  92. It looks easy, but it seems like the kids would never but the toys back up like that- they can’t reach it. How is it working out? I’m past the ride on toys and the kids use their bikes daily, but I could put mine up like that.

    • Hey Linda,
      Our kids aren’t old enough to play outside by themselves unsupervised, so there is always a grown-up to hang everything back up when we’re finished playing. I think once the kids are ALL old enough to play outside without an adult, the oldest will be able to hand the lighter bikes up.

      We still LOVE it!! I want another to put beside it now. 🙂

  99. Oh wow, we could definitely use this in our garage! We don’t have a shed and all of the many garden/yard tools are hogging up floor space! There’s still plenty of room for the cars, but it’s an eyesore!

  108. Love this system that there is a place for everything. Thats my biggest problem is staying organized once I have cleaned. I am not good at putting things back in place, but it seems like it would be so easy with monkey bars!

  109. We moved into our ‘new’ home 10 years ago, and we still have so much stuff not organized!! Some of it could be sold, donated or tossed, since it is no longer used. Some stuff we want, just can’t seem to get it organized. The Monkey Bar system is so versatile because it can be changed around as needs change. It sounds like it is quick and easy to install, and from the pics, it definitely does the trick of getting stuff up off the floor and organized.
