I’ve been packing lunches for the kids for years. They’ve all been packed with love, healthy foods and sometimes even a surprise love note hidden inside.
I’ll admit, I thought my kids’ lunches rocked.
And then I discovered Bentos, those super-amazing specially designed lunches. Food made into faces and monsters and animals. Every day a new creation so the child always has an amazing, surprising lunch to eat. Because who wants to eat boring food?
So I tried it. I cut the sandwiches out with cookie cutters, sliced the veggies into flower shapes and carves masterpieces out of cheese. I bought silicone cupcake cups in bright colors to hold the different foods and separate the designs. I created a special Pinterest board with ideas for future lunches and make different designs each day.
It was a lot of work, but I knew the kids would love it.
Except, they didn’t love it. In fact, they didn’t even like it.
As it turned out, the kids could not have cared less about the designs. And I was tired of spending an hour on lunch prep and buying weird foods just for their colors or shapes. So, after all of the excitement and work, our “bento” phase lasted about a week.
Because the kids didn’t want strange and exciting new foods that could be turned into crazy shapes or speared through other foods. They wanted their favorite foods that they’ve eaten and loved since they were little.

These look good and would be great to pack in a lunch.
I was TOTALLY going to get in to doing the bento boxes until I called the girls in to choose which “box” to order and they totally turned their noses up at them LOL “Mom, seriously?” And walked out hahahhaha ahhh well. We love Motts though and I love that o can keep them in my purse for quick snacks on the go.
As as kid, I would have loved the bento’s. My son would like them too and he is 7. At least you tried momma! Mott’s is a staple in our home. We have not tried the pouches yet, but they would be great for my 3.5 year old when we are on the go.
