When I was given the opportunity to review SodaStream, I was very excited. It’s a machine that turns cold tap water into sparkling seltzer water or homemade soft drinks in under 30 seconds. My husband and I drink a lot of diet soda, which costs a lot of money and wastes a lot of plastic bottles and aluminum cans. I’d seen reports about SodaStream that claimed it would resolve both of those problems and couldn’t wait to try it out.
The SodaStream Fountain Jet machine arrived with a carbonator canister, 2 one-liter bottles with screw-on caps, an instruction booklet and the machine. After reading through the instructions, I was ready to get started.
Look at how easy it was to make my very first homemade SodaStream soda:
My thoughts:
I love how easy to use the SodaStream is. I was finished reading the directions and had made soda within 5 minutes of starting. I worried that it would be much more complicated than it really is.
The look:
I really like the look of the SodaStream. Ours is a black and silver Fountain Jet Soda Stream machine. It looks nice on the counter and coordinates well with our other black and chrome kitchen appliances. It is actually made of plastic and feels less sturdy than it looks, but you wouldn’t know that unless you handled it.
What I’d change:
The 2 bottles that came with our SodaStream are not dishwasher safe and must be washed by hand. I would love a dishwasher-safe bottle. Also, my husband dropped an empty bottle on the kitchen floor right after we got our SodaStream. The black circular base of the bottle split and part of it broke off. The bottle is still usable, but is less stable standing up in the refrigerator since the base isn’t complete. Also, I wonder about how long the actual machine will hold up since the plastic isn’t very sturdy. We’ve been using ours for months without a problem and I haven’t read of SodaStream machines breaking, so hopefully this isn’t a concern.
Details:
Once your carbonator is empty, you just trade it in for a new one, paying only for the refill. You can do this online through Soda Stream or at a local retailer. We exchange ours at a nearby Kohls.
Overall:
We love it! I can’t even guess how many liters of soda we’ve made in our house with the SodaStream. We each have our favorite flavors and now know which ones we like a little more/less carbonation with or a little more/less flavoring added. We aren’t even tempted to go back to store bought bottles and cans and will be using our SodaStream for many years to come!

I have entered a few giveaways for this (haven’t won) but your review made it seem easier than I thought it would be. Now, if I can only get my hands on one! I am a soda fanatic at times.
We just received a Soda Stream today and I’m excited to review it! Looks like you are enjoying yours.
