I remember a couple of years ago when my husband and I loaded up the car to drive down to Walt Disney World® Resort with our three young children – the youngest being in preschool. It was all of the kids’ first trips to see the Mouse and we wanted it to be extra special. I knew our preschooler was still pretty young – and I even caught a bit of heat from our family saying he “wouldn’t even remember it” but we pressed on and to this day it is still one of our most favorite trips ever.
Even though several years have passed, our little guy still talks about “flying on Dumbo” and meeting Mickey. And the girls tell him stories of fun things we did while he was there too. They remind him of how many times he loved going on the Peter Pan ride, how he laughed and laughed when Daddy got drenched on a water ride and how he met real life princesses and characters.
We love to look at our trip photos together and make plans for a future trip. My son may not remember every single thing, but I know he still remembers the magic of Disney and often asks when we will get to go back.
Keep this in mind, too… even if your child does not remember all of the details of the trip – YOU will. And it is perfectly ok if you and your spouse are the only ones who really remembers how their little faces light up at all of the sights and sounds of the park. As a parent these are the moments we will cherish forever. And besides, if they do not remember – it’s a good reason to book another trip when your child gets a little older to see it all over again!
Disney and Scholastic have teamed up to encourage travel with preschool aged children, and want to help make it as memorable as possible – and as stress free as possible for both the parents and the little ones. The Disney World Preschool Guide is full of tips and strategies for making your trip the best it can be. They have even launched the Tiny Travelers Sweepstakes where you can follow the Tiny Traveler on social media and take daily guesses of where the little one is! Each correct guess enters your family to win a family vacation to Walt Disney World® Resort!! How cool is that!?
