Imagine what the floors might look like in a house with 19 children and 7 cats. Gross, huh? That’s exactly what our floors looked like until last week (though strangely we only have 3 children and 2 cats…. How is that possible?).
I’m happy to say that our floors have completely changed since I was given the opportunity to try the new Eureka AirSpeed ABS vacuum.
With my old vacuum, I have gotten used to going back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. Periodically stopping to ‘fluff’ something up out of the carpet with my foot so the vacuum would catch it then starting again with the back and forth motion. When I’d finished vacuuming, I would walk around and pick up and little pieces of paper, cat food, cracker crumbs, etc., that the vacuum did not suck up. It was a process I didn’t really love and I avoided doing it as long as possible most weeks. Because of this, our floors always looked horrible, whether I had not vacuumed in a week or if I had just vacuumed that day.
I set up a little test area in my family room to see if I could tell a difference between my old vacuum and the new Eureka AirSpeed ABS. I was careful to mark off each section so I could tell later where the different areas were. My careful sectioning turned out to be laughably unnecessary.
First, I used the old vacuum. I went back and forth a few times like I normally do, kicking a few bits and pieces up out of the carpet to help the vacuum pick them up.
Then I started the Eureka AirSpeed ABS. It was extremely easy to use. I just set it to the medium carpet height and turned it on. Before I’d even moved it across the carpet, I started hearing some rapid clicking. I turned the vacuum off and checked to see if I’d messed something up. (I’ll admit that I was so excited to try the new vacuum that I just skimmed the instructions quickly.) Nothing seemed to be wrong, so I started the vacuum again. The sounds started again, clicked for a little while, then slowed and stopped. I pushed the vacuum forward across the carpet and the sounds started again, this time even louder.
You may have figured out what the sound was, but it actually took me a minute. I’m so used to my pathetic old vacuum that I didn’t even realize that it was the sound of tiny little things being vacuumed up out of the carpet! How sad is that? I didn’t even know there were little tiny whatevers down in my carpet that needed to be vacuumed up and am pretty disgusted thinking about how long they’ve been there.
I went ahead and vacuumed the entire Eureka AirSpeed ABS section then stepped back to see if I could tell a difference.
Not only could I see a difference in how well the carpet was cleaned, but the Eureka side had vacuum tracks. We have lived in this house for over 3 years, used 2 other vacuums during that time, and I never knew this carpet could have vacuum marks. I thought because it was a Berber-type carpet it was too short to show tracks. But it turns out I was not using a vacuum with enough suction. That’s pitiful.
Imagine how much dirt was in my carpet the last three years. I could seriously gross myself out thinking about it.
Some facts about how the Eureka AirSpeed ABS works as well as it does:
- The Eureka AirSpeed ABS upright vacuum cleaner combines the suction power of popular AirSpeed Technology with the sanitary, dust-locking features of a bagged vacuum to form a formidable opponent against dirt.
- The result? AirSpeed ABS cleans carpets better than Dyson DC25 at 1/2 the price!*
- The force behind AirSpeed ABS’s powerful clean is its AirSpeed Technology.
- Most other vacuums propel air through a long nozzle and hose system full of twists and texturing, which results in lost suction.
- AirSpeed Technology uses two wide smooth tubes with limited bends and turns, allowing more air to pass through the vacuum.
- The direct air path from floor to dust cup decreases the distance for dirt to travel, which increases the amount of airflow for powerful suction.
- Unlike other models in the AirSpeed line – all of which are bagless – AirSpeed ABS uses replaceable, disposable bags to capture dust and debris and completely contain dirt and allergens.
*Based on a comparison between (a) regular MSRP of Eureka® AirSpeed® ABS and the Dyson DC25 vacuum as of June 2011 and (b) independent lab tests using industry standard ASTM F608 test, measuring embedded dirt removal from carpeting.
Check out some of the cool features:

1. Button to switch from floor setting to tools.
2. Stair and Uphostery Brush Attachment
3. Easy to Use Foot Pedals for On/Off and Tilt.
4. Settings for Bare Floor, Low, Medium and High Carpet.
5. Green indicator turns red when the Bag Should Be Changed.
6. The Quick “Clean-Lock” bag change system. It prevents collected dust from escaping back into the air. Great for people with allergies and sensitivities! The AirSpeed ABS comes with It comes with two premium ARM & HAMMER vacuum bags.
I can’t say enough about the AirSpeed ABS. It’s the nicest vacuum I’ve ever owned, but sells for less than half of the leading similar brand.
