It seems like there are a lot of times in my life when everything rolls along just fine. The kids are great, my husband is fine, and work is going well – like everything is on autopilot.
And then suddenly they’re not.
I headed out of town last week on a work trip and although things were great when I left, everything was very different when I returned. My kids needed to be asked more than once (or more) to do their normal daily tasks, my husband seemed a little more stressed than he had a few days earlier, and it was clear that there was a lot of housework needed around our home.
And I realized that my work trips affected everyone in the family.
I’m so very thankful that my husband understands how important my work is to me and to our family, and that he doesn’t complain when my travels add to his burdens. But I realized that I need to be more aware of the sacrifices the family makes for me when I work and the amount of time I spend on work directly affects them.
So today, I made my piece with them.
That’s right – piece. I made a “piece” offering to them with two amazingly good EDWARDS® pies – the EDWARDS® HERSHEY’S Chocolate Crème Pie and EDWARDS® Turtle Pie. They are soooo good!
It was the perfect way for us all to slow down, come together and catch up on what was happening in each others’ lives. For me to thank them for understanding why I work as hard as I do. And for me to say I’m sorry that it sometimes takes a toll on their lives as well.
They were all gracious enough to accept my “piece” offering and we enjoyed our desserts. It was a fun way to get things back on track and I’m glad we did it.
Do you have anyone in your life who could use piece offering? A neighbor, friend, or family member?
Today is Pi Day and it’s the perfect opportunity to make peace with a piece of EDWARDS® ready to serve pies. Enjoy!
