I have loved treats for as long as I can remember. As a little girl, I would sit on the counter and help my mother make them for the family. I thought I was something special for knowing how to make such awesome treats because I didn’t realize at that age how truly easy they are to put together.
Now that I have three kids of my own, Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® treats are some of our favorite treats to make together too. The children all love to help and we’ve even started putting fun twists on the Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® recipe I made as a child. The kids like to make fun colors, add candies, and even make fun shapes out of the treats. Check out the cool candy corn Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® treats we made for Halloween.
Now that the holidays are coming up, the kids thought it would be fun to make Christmas-themed treats. We love to make lots of treats for family and friends, so we all agreed that Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® treats decorated for the holidays would fun this year.
We came up with so many fun ideas – candy cane treats, treats dipped in white chocolate with red and white sprinkles, and ornament-shaped treats decorated with candies and sprinkles. Finally, we all agreed to make Christmas tree Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® treats and decorate them in lots of different designs.
CHRISTMAS TREE RICE KRISPIES® TREATS
INGREDIENTS
6 cups Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® cereal
1 (10 oz) bag of mini-marshmallows
3 tablespoons of salted butter
confectioner sugar
food coloring
DIRECTIONS
Spray a large piece of wax paper with non-stick cooking spray, set aside.
Melt 3 Tbsps of butter in a microwave-safe bowl. Pour in 3 cups of mini-marshmallows and stir to coat the marshmallows with butter.
Return the bowl to the microwave for one minute. If the marshmallows are not melted after one minute, add 15-30 second increments until the marshmallows are melted. Stir gently with greased spatula.
Add several drops of green food coloring until you get the desired shade of green.
Pour 6 cups of Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® into the bowl. Stir the Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® into the marshmallow mixture with a greased spatula.
Transfer the mixture to the wax paper and flatten with a greased spatula. Use a rolling pin sprayed with non-stick cooking spray to roll the mixture into a flat rectangle.
Cut the Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® treats into triangle shapes for trees or use cookie cutters to cut out other holiday shapes.
I added small notches cut into the sides of the trees, but you can also leave them just as triangles.
Allow the Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® treats to cool completely before decorating. For our treats, we used a simple icing made from confectioner sugar, water and food coloring, and small candies for decorations. To make pops, use a sharp knife or ice pick to make a small hole in the bottom of each treat, then insert a straw or stick.
Enjoy!
During the holiday season, for every photo of a Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® Treat shared, using #Treats4Toys, Kellogg’s® Rice Krispies® will donate a gift to Toys for Tots to help give a little joy to a child in need – get in the giving spirit and tag your favorite treat across social using #Treats4Toys!
