One of my favorite things about living in North Carolina is that we’re only a couple of hours away from the beach and a few hours away from the mountains. It’s easy to pack up the car for a last minute road trip to any number of amazing vacation spots.
One of my least favorite things is the summer heat and sun. It can get dangerously hot and humid here, often over 100°, especially at the beach.
As a mom of three young kids, it’s my job to protect them from the sun. I make sure they get plenty of water and don’t let them stay out in the sun for too long. Most importantly, I make sure that the kids always wear sunscreen when they’ll be outside. The chance of developing melanoma doubles after blistering burns during childhood, so it’s important to me to protect their skin.
The kids are tracked out of school right now and we’re playing outside every day. That means we’re all using sunscreen every single day, whether we’re at the playground, hanging out at the pool, or spending a day at the beach.
After discovering it on a family trip a few months ago, we’ve been using La Roche-Posay sunscreen this summer. La Roche-Posay is a family-oriented brand with products for the entire family – including kids and babies. Their Anthelios 60 Dermo-Kids was developed by dermatologists, pediatricians, and moms, so it’s exactly what I want in a sunscreen. It’s specifically made with powerful UVA/UVB filters that provide broad spectrum protection and contains highly protective ingredients and antioxidants that are effective, safe, and gentle on children’s sensitive skin.
Since the kids are often wet from the ocean, the pool, or sweat, I love to use La Roche-Posay. Anthelios 60 Dermo-Kids is water-resistant for 80 minutes, so the kids can have more fun between applications while still staying safe from the sun.
To make sure that the kids are safe while they play outside, we can check the levels of UV that the kids are getting with the La Roche-Posay My UV Patch and mobile app (available both on iOS and Android). My UV Patch is the first-ever stretchable skin sensor to actually monitor UV radiation in real-time. Parents can check the ongoing and daily sun exposure to make sure the family is staying safe in the sun.
La Roche-Posay also has another great product that we’ve found all sorts of uses for – their Cicaplast Baume B5, a multi-purpose balm. Now available in the U.S., the soothing balm actually sells every 15 seconds in Europe so you know it’s amazing! It’s perfect for dry, irritated areas of skin, immediately soothing and moisturizing. Cicaplast Baume B5 can be applied to body, face, and lips, and is gentle enough for all ages, even babies.
