Garlic Grilled Cheese Sandwich Recipe
Although I enjoy all of the seasons here in North Carolina, one always seems to make me the happiest. We don’t have extreme weather during the winter, but the cold and limited sunlight take a toll after a while. So every spring, I’m thrilled when the weather gets warmer, the birds start chirping, and everything outside is blooming again.
Spring is also a great time for renewal. Whether I’m spring cleaning, updating the décor with a fresh new look, or trying new things for the first time, spring is the perfect time to make a change.
One change that I’ve started making recently is trying new twists on our favorite recipes. I love the fresh flavors available once the warmer weather hits so it’s a great time to update the classic recipes. I find so many wonderfully fresh herbs, fruits, vegetables and other foods at Food Lion that are perfect for new dishes.
April is National Grilled Cheese month so it’s a great time to add a little fun to an old favorite. We tried this recipe last week and it was a huge hit! I knew my husband and I would like it, but was surprised by how much the kids loved it as well.
Garlic Grilled Cheese Sandwiches
¼ cup unsalted butter
½ tsp garlic powder
½ tsp onion powder
1 tsp dried oregano
dash of salt and pepper
1 Tbsp Parmesan cheese
Sliced mozzarella, provolone, or cheddar
12 slices white bread
1 (24 ounce) jar vodka marinara sauce
Mix together butter, garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, pepper, and Parmesan cheese. Spread onto one side of each slice of bread. Place 2 or 3 slices of cheese between sliced bread with garlic butter mixture on the outer sides of bread.
Place sandwiches on a baking sheet under the broiler for 2 to 3 minutes, until golden brown. Remove pan from oven, flip sandwiches, then cook until golden, about 2 minutes. If preferred, prepare sandwich in a indoor grill machine or in stove pan over medium low heat.
Cut sandwiches in half diagonally, and serve immediately with vodka marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
Enjoy!
