One of my favorite ways to vacation is by RV. When I was growing up, my best friend’s family had an RV and would invite me along on their family trips. We’d sit together in the very back of the RV, singing songs and playing games while we traveled.
Now that I have kids, I want to share the same fun adventures with our children. Spending quality time with the kids and really enjoying the travel, not just the destination.
My husband and I have taken our children on several RV trips so far. We hope to eventually buy our own RV, but for now we rent them.
Our longest trip so far was from our home in North Carolina to a music festival in Tennessee. We took our 2-year-old daughter in an RV and road tripped all around North Carolina and Tennessee, including the 3 days at the Bonnaroo music festival.
We had such an amazing time!
During the day, we were able to walk around, play in the kids’ area and listen to the great music. If our daughter needed a nap, it was nice to be able to just walk right back to the RV for a little while.
There was plenty of room for everything we needed in the RV. We brought a pack-n-play for our daughter to sleep in, along with little toddler gear for the table and her carseat for the drive.
But the best thing about staying in the RV at Bonnaroo was comfort.
It was extremely nice to be able to cool off in the RV during the hot days and to sleep on the RV beds at night. We had our own bathroom and a shower, chairs to sit in and even a door to lock to secure our belongings.
Before we’d ever rented an RV, we worried that we might not be able to drive it. We assumed we’d need a special license and lessons to drive it. But we were wrong.
RVs can be driven with a standard license. To rent ours, we just looked online for local RV rentals and called to reserve one. When we arrived, we were given a short demonstration in the parking lot, a tour of the RV features and we were on our way!
It was much easier than I thought it would be to rent and to drive an RV. And so much fun!
Our RV trip to Bonnaroo was one of the best vacations I’ve ever had and we have so many great memories from the trip.
I would absolutely recommend taking a family RV trip if you’ve never tried it before. Get out there, see the country and enjoy the trip, not just the destination!
