We don’t eat a lot of junk food in our family. I don’t usually keep it in the house, because it seems like when it’s here it gets eaten, but when it’s not we don’t miss it. We get treats for special occasions, but otherwise don’t have them very often.
But I realized the other day that we’ve had a lot of those occasions lately.
Two of our three children just had birthdays, there are a lot of end-of-year class parties going on and it seems like we’ve had a lot of treats in the house. Not to mention the less-than-healthy foods that we’ve been eating on the several road trips we’ve taken recently.
Instead of rare indulgences, it seems like we’re making them more of a habit. And I want that to stop.
So instead of being tempted by sweets and junk food, I’ve started keeping healthier treats around. When I get hungry or need a little afternoon pick-me-up while I’m working, I feel a lot better about reaching for one of them instead of a treat.
One of my favorites is Homemade Granola Trail Mix.
I make a batch of it and keep in little jars or bags for later. When I’m running out the door for carpools or need a snack in my office, I grab one to snack on.
And this isn’t just any granola trail mix. It’s flavored, made with different kinds of Nature ValleyTM Protein Granola . Whether I’m in the mood for Cranberry Almond granola with raisins or Peanut Butter granola with carob chips, it’s easy to create lots of awesome different trail mix creations with Nature ValleyTM Protein Granola.
