Both of my little girls have always been wonderful about playing quietly. Whether they were sitting and coloring, playing with their babies or doing some other activity, they were able to play quietly for long periods of time without wanting much from me.
My son, however, is a hands-on, full attention, play-with-Mommy-all-day-long little boy. So when he wants to sit for an hour at a time playing with one toy or activity, I know he really loves it. For the past couple of years, that favorite activity has been playing with his PLAY-DOH collection.
My son will invite his sisters or me to play along or will sit quietly creating an imaginative PLAY-DOH world all by himself. Whether he’s making animals to play with, pretend food to serve in a restaurant or just making pretty designs and shapes with lot of bright colors, my son absolutely loves playing with PLAY-DOH toys.
And I love that – because when he plays with his PLAY-DOH modeling compound, he’s using more than just his imagination. As he rolls, squeezes, flattens, cuts and manipulates the PLAY-DOH modeling compound, my son is also strengthening his little hand and arm muscles, building hand-eye coordination, and developing fine motor skills.
And having a great time doing it.
I remember my own collection of PLAY-DOH cans and toys from my childhood. My siblings and I each had our favorite colors and modeling tools, and would spend hours creating fun worlds and characters to play with.
It’s wonderful for me now to see my own children making those same happy memories with PLAY-DOH toys.
As PLAY-DOH celebrates its 60th birthday, they’ve created a brand new way for kids to have fun – the PLAY-DOH Town Collection.
Made with fun, customizable figures, town buildings, vehicles and equipment, PLAY-DOH Towns give kids unlimited creative possibilities. While they sell treats from their ice cream truck, help put out fires with their firefighters, or dream up their own fun town activities, kids will be inspired to create and let their imaginations run free.
The 60th birthday celebrations will culminate on World PLAY-DOH Day on September 16. Be sure to pick up a playset so your kids can join in on the fun!
