September 19th is Talk Like a Pirate Day and is a perfect opportunity for you to have fun with your kids! Whether you’re planning a full party or just an afternoon of fun with the neighborhood kids, we’ve put together some great ways for you to celebrate with your children.
Dress the Part
Give each child an eye-patch and black or red bandana to wear during the party. You can find inexpensive pirate eye patches, rings, bandanas and other fun dress-up gear at craft and party stores.
Kids will have a ball with these pirate-themed activities.
– Let each child decorate his/her own mini-treasure chest with paint, stickers and stick-on gems. Inexpensive chests can be bought at local craft stores and party stores online.
– Kids can write out a special pirate message for their very own message in a bottle activity. Have the kids write their secret messages on a paper scroll, then place the scroll into a bottle and seal it.
Make a simple pirate treasure map for the kids to follow. You can have them read the map together, finding and following clues around the house or out in the yard until the reach the “X marks the spot” treasure location.
Everyone loves prizes so these inexpensive trinkets will be a huge hit with the children. I also like to include some yummy treats as part of the favors and what better to include than Pirate’s Booty! It goes perfectly with the pirate theme, is baked (not fried), contains no artificial colors, flavors or preservatives and is even gluten-free. Best of all, it’s super yummy and my kids love it! Add them to a treasure chest for the kids to find, or hide them throughout the house and have the kids follow clues to each location.
