Our family loves baseball. I played softball growing up and my husband played baseball, so ever since the kids were tiny little things, we’ve played some version of batting and catching with them in the yard.
My son is now playing in his first season of Tee-Ball in our little town. It’s mostly just to teach the idea of baseball to kids, so the teams are really small and pretty informal. Which is good, because the majority of kids have no idea what they’re doing.
As soon as anyone is lucky enough to hit the ball, everyone panics and runs after it. Everyone. No matter where their position is. Or which team they’re on. And when someone gets to the ball and needs to throw it, they usually just throw to the closest person, whether that’s in the right direction or not.
It’s adorable and hilarious and so fun to see the kids having a great time.
One of our family friends is the team coach, so we agreed to help with some of the other tasks. We supply the snacks and water for some of the games, drive some kids when their parents can’t make it, and are responsible for getting the gear to and from each practice.
For snacks, I had some idea of what the kids liked from my daughters’ soccer teams – treats. But since the kids are often out running in some pretty hot weather, we also pack along lots of water bottles and fruits.
For the last meeting, the kids and I put together fun little goodie bags for each of the team members. The kids were all getting their pictures taken instead of practicing, so we packed the bags for everyone to take along with them when they were finished.
For the goodie bags, we used fun baseball-wrapped Rice Krispies Treats®, baseball cards, baseballs, and baseball themed water bottles. The wrappers were free online, so we just chose a few favorites, printed them out and taped them on.
My kids were so excited to help put them together and to pass them out to their friends and all of the team members were thrilled to receive them.
We knew that all of the kids would love the Rice Krispies Treats® and the little wrappers were an easy way to dress them up for the occasion. We’ll definitely be doing them more often in the future!
