It seems like I start every school year off with a burst of energy. The kids are excited about their new teachers and seeing their friends again, and I’m excited for them. We head out and buy all of the new school gear, uniforms and backpacks. We stock the pantry and fridge with great foods for snacks and lunches. We pack up the backpacks with supplies and wait anxiously for the first day.
Fast forward two months and it’s a different picture.
The kids are harder to wake up in the morning and not as excited about heading off for the long day at school. They just want to stay in bed.
Things are different for me too. After spending a lot of time making fun and decorative foods at the beginning of the year, I’ve now gone back to regular lunch items. The kids’ excitement over all of my efforts only lasted a few days, so there wasn’t any point in spending so much time on them.
Instead, I now include a few items that I know they’ll love, along with a sweet note or silly joke. The kids love them and the lunches are much easier to prepare during our hectic school mornings.
