Over the years, the school supplies changed from grade to grade and school to school. But one brand was always constant, always consistent and always our favorite – Elmer’s Glue.
Whether I was at home working on poster board projects or at school gluing construction paper together for art projects, Elmer’s School Glue was always what I used.
And now that I have children of my own, we still use Elmer’s products. They’re what we use at home and what we always buy for going back to school.
Of course, we always pick up extra Elmer’s Glue for our craft area.
The kids love using their imagination and being creative when we work on crafts together, and I love that they’re gaining cognitive and social skills while they have fun.
I’m also helping my children prepare for school when we work on crafts together. My toddler son is learning pattern recognition, spatial perception and other key visual processing skills when he works on arts and crafts. And by using his hands to tear and glue papers together, he’s developing fine motor skills and accelerating the development of the muscles in his little fingers and hands.
All of the crafting activities we work on together will help him develop important skills he’ll need in school, preparing him for a more successful academic career.
For lots of fun craft project ideas, lesson plans, printables and more, be sure to join Elmer’s Parents Club!
We get these extensive lists of supplies from our schools. There are always Elmer’s products on that list.
Elmer’s products are still the most common ones on school lists. We buy them every year!
Ah, the taste. The lovely taste of Elmer’s glue right after recess…I’ll never forget it! 😉
Sort of off topic, but did you know that Elmers can make the BEST hair gel and mohawk spike? The fact that it’s water soluble is perfect to get out with Shampoo? I use it all the time in crafts as well as makeup class.
Thanks for sharing! I can;t remember my back to school, it was last century! But my son starts middle school, so we are all excited!

We always keep Elmer’s Glue around for rainy day crafts and for scrapbooking! I remember seeing it on my daughter’s first back to school list. It’s hard to believe she’s grown now!
I have so many memories with Elmer’s Glue and gluesticks as a child. I’m sure my kids will too. 🙂
I can still smell Elmer’s Glue without even opening a bottle. I have some in my office now for the kids as well as the glue sticks.
I am a teacher at a private school here in Trinidad. One of the things that parents love about our school is that we provide all materials. Yes, you’ve read that correctly! The children are only required to bring themselves, an empty backpack and a lunch kit to school. Everything else is provided by us. The school purchases basic things like pencils, erasers, rulers, sharpeners etc, but things like glue are left to the teacher. So guess who goes to the store to buy 24 bottles of Elmer’s Glue? Me! 🙂
Even as an adult I still need Elmers glue! Thanks for sharing!
I’ve never heard of this Elmer’s club, that’s awesome, I’ll have to check it out. We have our school supply shopping almost done. I just need a few extras.
I used to love going back to school because I got so bored toward the end of summer!! We always use Elmer’s products in our house!
Elmer’s Glue was always needed for back to school for me, too. It’s a wonderful brand!
I like the idea of doing some memory crafts before school starts. Thanks; for sharing.
Elmer’s is a staple for crafting! It’s such a great and reliable product.
Our school supply lists are so long. Sometimes it’s a burden especially when you have multiple kids
That reminds me to start looking at my son’s supply list. Ours are always very specific with brands and types of products. elmers though is always one of them – both the white glue and glue sticks!
My youngest starts kindergarten this year and I know we’ll be stocking up on Elmer’s for sure. I’m always so excited to go supply shopping and get their stuff all ready.
We have Elmer’s clue in our cabinet right now. Can’t imagine buying anything else.
The school supply lists are so long but when we have to get glue sticks, we get extra because we use them at home all the time!
We don’t hAve to provide anything besides lunch Paul’s and backpacks! I think we are pretty lucky in that sense !
So I loved the smell of glue. Is that bizarre? I loved going back to school, new stuff and clothes- then about 3 weeks I remembered how much I hated it again and started the summertime count down.
School supplies are so much fun to buy! I can’t wait to have kids and buy some for them.
I hope no one says eating? I loved crafting in school, anything with sparkles!
I like that schools send the lists home. That way I am not buying things the kids truly don’t need.
Elmer’s brings back such great memories of school projects, that is all we used and all my kids used. A great brand that my grandkids will use too.
Kiddo lives with her mom during the week but she gives us the list for kiddo. I buy a new backpack, her supplies and some fun extras since her mom has 3 others kids to get ready! My husband isn’t much of a shopper so kiddo and I pick an outfit or two to go to her moms for the new school year. We’ll pick out something for here as well since about that time shes outgrown anything from the previous fall.
Elmer’s glue is classic! I remember putting glue on my fingers and then making a glue ball. lol.
We always use Elmer’s. Nothing else holds as well, and that we’ve found out the hard way.
Back to school lists were pretty easy when I was a kid. But these days they are longer since the schools don’t have as much funding.
We love Elmer’s. Great product.
Elmer’s glue is hands down the best! Thanks for sharing!
We always used Elmer’s when I was growing up! It’s my favorite
There is always a bottle or two of Elmer’s in our back to school stash! I can’t believe it’s already that time again!
Elmers is definitely a brand I trust. I used it growing up and now the kids do. Love it
I love Elmers’ products. The kids always use their glue for crafts.
I just got the list from my son’s school. My goodness, I have some shopping to do!
We have lots of glue sticks on our school supply lists. I try to pick up extra, too. The teachers always end up needing more by the halfway point and it’s better to have picked them up on sale!
We just moved and school starts here in just over a week so we have been picking up school supplies. They actually didn’t need much at all (lots of glue sticks and pencils mainly).
I was the weird one who hated summer as I was growing up. I loved school. I enjoy summers now that I’m a parent/teacher, however, I am already getting in the mood for my daughter to go back and for me to get back to work.
Elmer’s? The only glue I ever used as a child!
I am so excited to see my daughter form her own school memories! Kindergarten starts next week- so… here we go!!!
I remember doing the book covers with paper bags. What fun. I need to do them with my kids!
Having several kids and just viewing the list of what supplies mine need, I have started picking things up. We always get the Elmers glue sticks, they need lots of them
Elmer’s school glue is just a part of childhood. I have no idea why but my kids just loved getting the sticks of glue over the bottles.
Back to school is when i get to return to my work-at-home job and know I wont get interrupted with questions and requests all day. i am looking forward to actually getting a whole project done without a dozen or so interruptions for random things like “is it snack time yet” (about 5 minutes apart LOL.)
i remember elmer’s having a galaxy version. i loved that glue
Elmer’s glue has been around for years and I used it as a kid and so did my son and daughter. I liked my son’s homemade turkey and Christmas tree he made at school. I still have them.
I have a 9-year-old son with autism, and we actually buy Elmer’s glue sticks in bulk because he goes through two or three a DAY with all of his creative art projects. And it has to be Elmer’s – he’s very particular, he’ll just throw any other brand of glue stick straight into the trash!
