My kids are at a small school that, like most schools in the US, has moved over to Common Core teaching.
Since I’ve seen sooo many different opinions and claims online about Common Core, I decided to get my information from a trusted source – Be A Learning Hero.
Be A Learning Hero is made up of many organizations with one shared mission – to help parents support their children along their learning journey. The organizations include the National PTA, the Council of the Great City Schools, National Council of Teachers of Mathematics and Common Sense Media.
What is Common Core?
Common Core is a new set of academic standards for students across the country. Until recently, each state had different standards for students, so the reading or math level in one state could be well below the same grade’s standard in another state. In 2010, 46 states joined together to create and share a new set of standards, to better prepare their children for academic success.

Tests and homework can be frustrating for both parents and children, especially when children are unfamiliar with new academic strategies and assessments.
