I’ve seen a lot of car accidents in my life.

After college, I was a licensed Property & Casualty Adjuster for a high-risk insurance company. That means that every day, I investigated car crashes, determined liability, assessed the damage to the vehicles, evaluated injuries and determined the claim value.

Many of those crashes involved children, and the more serious crashes were really difficult to work. Years later, I still remember some of the heartbreaking and tragic injuries and losses.

Those accidents are the reason I never, ever sacrifice safety when choosing my children’s car seats.

And why all three of my children are in Britax Car Seats.

Britax Frontier 90 Review and Giveaway

 

The Frontier 90 is awesome. It can be a 5-point Harness Car Seat for children up to 90 pounds and then can be a Booster Seat all the way up to 120 pounds. That’s a long time! It’s the perfect seat to transition from an extra-safe harness seat to an extra-safe booster.

There are lots of great features on the Frontier 90 too. The Click-Tight Installation system made installing the car seat really easy. Instead of trying to get beside the seat or feed my arm through the car seat to get the strap through, all I had to do was put my fingers in the Click-Tight Installation slots and press the buttons.

The lower part of the Car Seat (where my daughter’s lower back would lean) flips up to reveal the inside of the car seat for Click-Tight Installation. I can then have easy access to the latch straps and/or the vehicle seat belt path. It’s really cool!

Another thing I love about the Frontier 90 is that I don’t have to choose the Harness or the Booster mode. If my older daughter is using it, we just tuck the harness straps off to each side and out of the way behind the armrests. When my younger daughter or a friend needs to sit in the seat, we pull the straps back to the middle and have a 5-point harness again. Very smart!

Again, from my insurance claim experience I’m very aware of how important side-impact protection is. I love that the Frontier has True Side Impact Protection. With nice side walls and head restraint, the Frontier 90 side-impact protection system keeps my daughter’s head, neck and body aligned. Plus, the EPP foam absorbs energy, distributes crash forces and shields my little girl from vehicle intrusion.

The comfort features of the Britax Frontier 90 all ensure that my daughter will be comfortable on even long trips. The cup holders and little storage spots are perfect for a water bottle and small activity items. The armrests and front-adjust recline mean that my daughter can get comfortable and adjust the seat as she likes. And the comfort foam provides and additional layer of padding to keep my daughter cushioned in the seat.

I love the look of the Frontier too. It’s clearly a well-made car seat, with quality structure and fabric. And with the Easy-Remove cover, I can take the cover off for easy cleaning without uninstalling the car seat or even disassembling the harness.

  4. I Love that there is a harness available to use (and then tuck away if not needed) as my grand is in a booster seat without the harness and is not comfortable with the tripoint seat belt.

  99. I love the ease of use features. An easier to use car seat makes it more likely to be used and installed correctly. So, click on latch, lock offs, no retread harness, and especially click tight!

  151. The side impact protection for my 2- 1/2 year old grandson would be wonderful as he has to travel to and from daycare when daddy and mommy work everyday.  I would love to win this for him to keep him safe as he travels .

  154. The side impact protection is my fav feature. Back in 1998 I was in a car wreck where a car hit the side of my van when he ran a red light. My oldest was in her car seat and the left side of the seat broke in half, even though the car had hit the opposite side of the van. All her injuries were from her car seat breaking!! So yes, the side impact protection is important for me when buying a car seat or booster seat for my youngest. Great review btw!

  193. I like the Side Impact.  We got into a car accident around Christmas and all 3 of my kids were in the Britax seats.  We hit a semi while going down the freeway.  The car was totaled, but all 3 of my kids walked away without a scratch.  I will never choose another car seat brand.

  217. I love this seat for my son who is tall but not near ready for a booster! However, Britax is not the end all be all of car seats. There are MANY less expensive ones out there that provide the same safety of Britax. What you’re paying for are the bells and whistles. No one gets to see the crash test results, so we don’t really know which seats perform better then others. We simply know pass/fail. The video of an expired seat failing in a crash test is a Britax.

It ensures that you always have the right harness height easily without having to take the seat in and out and also if you have a different child in that seat than the normal passenger, they are also getting the right fit.   270. The click tight is great. I am a carseat tech and hope that with this new idea, other companies might rethink and parents would install better. Also, this seat has the tallest top harness slots on the market…so for a tall, young child who still needs a 5 pt harness this seat is great.

    As for the safety of a Britax seat over another….there is no evidence that one seat is safer than the next. Carseat companies do not tell us their data…..all we know is that ALL carseats being sold have to pass the same safety standards, but we have no idea how a $40 scenera preforms in a crash compared to this $300 britax. The SAFEST seat is the one that fits the child correctly and is installed and used correctly 100% of the time. This seat is nice, and britax is a great company. I personally own 2 britax seats because they fit 2 different needs…but I also own other brands.

    I really dislike the cupholders. I was on the Car Seat Team and we were trained by NHTSA (National Highway Traffic & Safety) and they stress that anything loose can be a projectile. To have a car seat with a cup holder is just asking for a kid to get a cup to the head. Unless it locks in, which I can’t see being feasible.

  403. As far as safety features go, I’m partial to the side impact protection that this seat offers. However, the main reason I’d love to have this seat is because it would accommodate my ginormous boys!

  407. Both of my children are in Britax currently! I love them and will never use anything else! My favorite feature of ours currently is the click safe sound. Grandparents have a hard time knowing when to stop pulling and typically leave the straps too loose. So I love that this is a guide for them!

  450. I love that is has a 5 point harness system, so if there is a crash, the baby will be safely secured in the seat and will not go flying out.

  451. I like the click tight installation system which is an automatic seatbelt system that does the work of tightening the belt for you. The other nice feature is front adjustable harness height system which makes it easy to djust the child as he grows with the carseat installed in carand the side impact wings.
