My husband was on his way to an important meeting a couple of weeks ago and was anxious about making a good impression. He rushed out the door and drove off quickly so he wouldn’t be late.
He walked back in the door 10 minutes later with a tiny kitten in his hand, handed it to me with a little smile and said he’d explain later.
When he got back from work that evening, he told me about his morning. As he’d driven down the highway rushing to work, he saw the kitten in the middle of the road. He couldn’t stop in time and actually went right over her, but thankfully the kitten was right in the middle of the lane and the tires didn’t hit her.
My husband pulled over to the side of the road and went to get the kitten, but she ran away across the median. So my husband crossed the median and went to the oncoming lanes of traffic. There is a stop light not far from there, so he was able to signal the cars slowing for the red light to stop before hitting the kitten. He scooped up the terrified kitten and got back to his car.
On his way home, he looked for other kittens, the mother cat and any flyers or possible owners. He found none and brought the kitten back to our house. He was late for his important meeting, of course.
I believe that it’s easy to learn so much about a person simply by the way they treat animals. There are a lot of people who would have kept driving, maybe most people. I’m so lucky to be able to spend my life with someone who treats the tiniest of animals with such kindness and care.
So we now have this adorable, tiny little addition to our family. And I’m reminded when I look at our new kitten just how truly special my husband is.
We can judge the heart of a man by his treatment of animals.

I truly Love this story:) So much love for animals and appreciation for your husband. I do agree with you he is a sweet man. I love animals, I grew up on a farm, I even rode calf’s. I caught grasshoppers, mice, frogs I even found a bat and thought he was cute but my parents did not:( I tamed barn cats, nursed injured birds. I am an animal person and they bond with me. I am afraid to go anywhere there is animals that need a home, I would have too many animals. I have a cute dog, she is a Pom, I love her so much and she loves me. I have been divorced since 1987. Never remarried (abusive marriage). I have my family and my Molly. Thanks for sharing.

Oh, that is adorable!! …the story and the kitten… <3
love that story. My middle daughter is trying so hard to convince my husband to let her get a kitten
I truly believe that the measure of a man (or woman) is in how they treat animals, children and those who are less fortunate than they are themselves. You have a man with a big heart, that’s for sure. 🙂 He’s a keeper and then some! And tell him I admire what he did – it’s not easy to do the right thing sometimes and missing his meeting was probably a big deal. But he did the right thing anyway.
Thank you! I so agree. 🙂
That’s a wonderful human being you have for a husband. The world needs more people like him. Thanks for sharing this story.
What a sweet story and cute kitten. My mom recently found a kitten running down the side of the road and now he is a new member of her household.
Awww!!! What a great hubby! And cute kitty! We got our 3rd kitty as a kitten that hubby found cold, wet and hungry.
