I love dollar stores!
Last week, my daughter threw her very first slumber party and we knew we’d want lots of fun decorations and activities to make it special. Since I didn’t want to spend a huge amount of money, we headed to the dollar store to pick up our supplies.
The first part of the party would be dinner, so we grabbed items for that first. A tablecloth, plates, cups and utensils. Then I picked up cute little purple containers for the kids’ pizza toppings. (The containers come with tops that clip securely on, so they’ll be awesome for lunchboxes later on!)
I also grabbed some silver plastic serving trays. LOVE these! They look just like heavy silver trays – you’d never know they were just a dollar!
The next part of the sleepover would be the craft time, so we headed to the arts and crafts aisles. We bought lots of fun goodies like markers and paper, beads and necklace kits and my favorite – flip flops.
The girls wanted to make fancy flip flops with their friends, so $1 flip flops were perfect! We bought each girl a pair to decorate and take home.
After the downstairs food and crafts, we planned for the kids to get ready for bed and then do one last craft during movie night. Just in case any of the girls forgot their own, we picked up some extra toothbrushes (6 for $1), toothpaste and washcloths (4 for $1).
For the last craft of the night, we bought pillowcases and nail polishes. The girls would paint their nails and/or use fabric markers to decorate a pillowcase while they watched a movie. (The cheapest I could find pillowcases online was $8 each, so we almost scrapped this craft. I was SO excited to find pillowcases at the dollar store. Woot!)
The girls had an amazing time at the sleepover and all of the moms commented later on about how high I’d set the bar with all of the activities. 🙂
Thanks to the dollar store, all of the supplies cost me $30. That’s it!
Next time you’re organizing the pantry, cleaning out the closets or planning an event, remember your local dollar store!

How nice. I like that I can buy disposable items for only $1. Why pay more for something, like plastic cups, that will be gone in a jiffy?
Tiff @ Babes and Kids says
That’s awesome that you were able to put all of that together for only $30! Hope they had a great time!
