Before I had kids, I wondered if they would be like my husband or me. We both played a lot of sports and were active through our school years, so I wondered if my kids would do the same.
Since my kids are still too young to take part in organized sports teams (in our little town, anyway), we’ve been finding lots of other fun ways for the kids to get their exercise for now. Whether we go for long hikes in the woods, run around the playground for hours or play mini-soccer in the front yard, the kids love spending time together having fun. It’s become part of our routine.
Another part of our daily routine is good, scheduled sleep for all of the children.
That sounds obvious and easy, but if you’re a parent then you know that strict schedules can be hard to keep with kids. There always seem to be errands to run, carpool lines to wait in, homework problems to work or baths to take. Getting the kids in bed when I intended isn’t always easy. But for us, making sure that everything is finished for bedtime on time is a top priority.
I’ve realized that unless the kids get routine, regular exercise and sleep, it can change their temperaments drastically. So for us, happy kids means an everyday routine of energizing exercise and sound sleep.
What about you? Do your kids have a daily schedule?
