It’s that time of year – we’re making Christmas wish lists and planning visits with family.
When Christmas Eve finally rolls around, we like to make cookies with the kids. We let the children decorate the cookies, then they all pick their favorite to put on Santa’s plate by the fireplace.
But what if there is no fireplace?
According to research from Trulia, although fireplaces are a common amenity for older houses, many newer homes are being built without them. So what does Santa do to get into those houses? Trulia wants to know!
Trulia has a fun contest going on right now to help answer this question and you can win $500 for holiday shopping if you enter! To participate, submit a quick video on YouTube or Twitter of your child answering the question: ““How does Santa get into homes without a chimney?”. Be sure to tag @Trulia and include the hashtag #NoChimneyNoProblem and submit before December 8th and you’ll automatically be entered for the chance to win $500!
Plus, for each winner, Trulia will be making an additional donation to Toys for Tots, to help bring toys to less fortunate children during the holiday season. See contest rules and details.
Here’s the video we made:

We used to tell the kids that Santa had a magic key that fit all the doors of houses with no chimney. And just recently we saw Santa’s Magic Key ornaments. It brought a smile to both my face and my 19 yr old daughters face.
That’s what my parents told me, and I believed it.
We left the door unlocked for Santa……….just to make it easy.
We did basically the same thing. We told them we left the door unlocked so that he could just come right in.
I think everyone has there own idea of telling there children how Santa come in without a chimney, I have always told them that Santa can make himself tiny enough to fit through a key hole and if there is no key hole thats ok, because for one night he can even break the barriers from outside to inside of the walls,to bring toys and spread love about in the air…………………………….
I think that is how santa gets in too….. through the window, using magic 🙂
Aww what a cute kid on the video, and yes I agree that is a beautiful set up on the fireplace. my mom was a fun snatcher, she raised us up not to believe in Santa.
Our house doesnt have a fireplace so we told our son that Santa comes in thru the door with his special Christmas tree shaped key haha
I saw this contest a couple days ago so I asked my granddaughter how Santa was going to get in. She said, “With his fairy dust, Granny. Santa and the fairies are friends.” I thought that was cute 🙂
This is too cute! None of my daughters believe anymore but they always said he was magic and made his own chimney to come down! lol
Santa has magical dust I believe 🙂 I had a friend build a chimney out of boxes then painted them! Great idea!
Santa is idolized by young children for many years since I was a young kid.
I have a fireplace so just moved into this new apt and its like a doll house …I am so blessed .
I was married once and now they kids have there own kids..so I told my grandaughter he won’t cme here .that Santa is going to have to come thru here doggy door with a big stick and unlock the door .Nicholas said ..so far so good.. And Caleb was just born May 21st and i cannot wait to see his face on Christmas day ..I have a great bunch to spend it with anyway.
Magic! My best idea ever ~ youngest son was beginning to doubt the SC. We had a fireplace and white carpeting. I got some ashes from inside the fireplace and dipped cowboy boots in the ashes. Then used the boots to make footprints across the room. Even our older son was ready to believe as he knew I would never ever do such a thing so it had to be old SC himself.
yes magic sounds good. my dad use to make sleigh and reindeer tracks on the roof outside my window an leave smear prints on the window saying thats how he got in. lol
When I was a kid I never wondered how he got in, just that he did!
We usually didn’t have a fireplace, but Santa always showed up 🙂
I love Trulia, and I also had no fireplace growing up but I never really believed in Santa anyways!
Our current house has a “fireplace” but we don’t actually have a chimney. We’ve told our grandsons that Santa has magic powers and can walk through doors and so far they haven’t asked many questions about that, LOL.
when we were kids we didnt really think about how santa got in,just that he did.that is until my brother and i snuck downstairs to see if santa came and put presents under the tree only to find our dad dressed as santa putting the presents under the tree.
LOL our Santa Clause comes in through the front door as he has master keys that lets him into all the homes in the world, and therefore he does not get ashes and soot all over his beautiful outfit and mess up the white fur.
He comes in through the front door of course
Santa has a special key that can unlock any door, so he comes in through the front door.
