One of the most important jobs in life is teaching others – whether you are an educator in the classroom, a parent at home, or even just an influence in a child’s life. Teaching, inspiring, and helping to develop a love of learning is a crucial part of lifelong success.
But education is advancing just as quickly as science these days with standards and testing requirements increasing year after year. In fact, a majority of the country’s school districts have adapted the Next Generation Science Standards or NGSS for short.
This change has prompted teachers to look for new content and ways to bring this learning into the classroom in a way that children can learn and understand – and have fun doing it. I’m thrilled to share that we found just that in Legends of Learning.
Legends of Learning is an educational technology platform that offers science-based games for grades 3 – 8. Legends of Learning offers more than 1200 science games and simulations for 144 learning objectives.
The Legends of Learning Science Game Collection is divided into Earth & Space Science, Life Science, and Physical Science – with games and activities to match each lesson.
We found Legends of Learning a few months ago and have been using it to supplement their lessons. We signed up for the home membership and the kids have had a blast playing the games here at home.
I believe that it’s important to supplement my children’s learning at school with fun learning activities at home. But if I’m completely honest, science has been the one subject I have shied away from teaching. Things have changed since I was in school and I want to be sure my kids are getting correct information.
Legends of Learning was very easy to navigate, and even though I did not have a set curriculum to follow at home, I could easily see how this would work naturally into a teacher’s lesson plans and save tons of time!
The kids have played several of the games so far and enjoy them all. One of their favorites is Chrono Combat.
Chrono Combat a fun little space alien game that he kids play while they learn about variations of inherited traits. When the kids mess up in the game, they get to answer a trivia question to keep playing.
The kids knew some of the answers, but not all of them. When they’d get to a question they didn’t know, I’d use it as a teaching moment. We’d talk about the topic a little until the kids were more familiar with it.
The kids were so excited about being able to answer the question correctly and play more that they didn’t seem to realize how much they were learning. Legends of Learning has made it simple to make learning fun again!
My children ended up having so much fun that they didn’t want to wait to take turns. We set up another laptop so they could play side by side. They loved challenging each other in different games and helped each other with the questions.
The kids and I had a blast playing these games – and I can say that we ALL learned from them. I feel much more confident teaching my children about science at home with Legends of Learning as a resource.
I also really enjoyed watching my daughter help her little brother understand some of the rules and lessons – who knows, she might grow up to be a teacher some day!
It’s been so much fun to watch my children learn and play with Legends of Learning. I’ve told many of my teacher and homeschooling friends about it and know that their kids will love it too.
If you are a teacher, be sure to visit the Legends of Learning website to set up your free account to start accessing this impressive library right away. If you are a parent, share this amazing resource with your children’s teachers and consider signing up for your own home membership as well.
