Here’s my review of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” with no spoilers.
This Sci-fi Action sequel will not disappoint fans of the original three movies in the series from the 70’s and 80’s or even audiences not at all familiar with any of the prior movies.
It is appropriately rated PG-13 for large amounts of death and destruction consistent with what war is. Because “war” is in the title nobody should be surprised.
This movie takes place decades after the events of “Return of the Jedi,” the 1983 classic. There is not peace in this galaxy far, far away, and the conflict now involves a new generation of heroes and villains. Of course, “Star Wars” is pure fantasy, and as such, it is all in good fun.
.
Even so, some of this new classic should remind us of our own history in which a world war was followed by another world war within a few decades. The relics and wounds of the old big war lead unfortunately toward the next.
In Star Wars, the good guys and bad guys are clearly delineated for us, but there are some classic ideas about evolving or moving back and forth between good and evil. This visually stunning film features the galaxy with the largely unexplained and mysterious “Force” that again falls into the center of the conflict. It’s like Hitler vs Churchill with magic and much cooler weaponry. Fantastical war is much more entertaining because we know the blood is not real.
I highly recommend multiple viewings!
