Teaching my children about the world around them is part of my responsibility as a mother. I want them to learn how to be kind, well-rounded children, so I encourage them to learn about and be considerate of other people and the world we all live in. By encouraging the kids to step outside of their comfort zones and to experience new things, I hope to help them embrace life’s adventures.
Because the kids are sometimes a little hesitant about trying new things, I like finding ways to encourage them. I’ve found some great books, shows, and movies that have themes of being adventurous and being open to new experiences. They’re a great way to share the message with my kids in a way that they’ll enjoy.
One of those movies opens this week – Norm of the North. Since it’s about Norm the polar bear, the kids and I made polar bear cookies yesterday and talked about going to the movie. They’re already super excited!
The latest movie release from Lionsgate introduces audiences to Norm, a sweet and talkative polar bear from the Arctic. When Norm realizes that his beloved home may be overtaken by developers, he ventures to NYC for help. With helpful friends by his side, Norm takes on the Big Apple and a big identity crisis as he tries to save the day.
I love the message of the movie and can’t wait to see it with the kids. They’ll love watching Norm on his adventure, of course, but they will also be seeing Norm step out of his comfort zone and encounter new challenges. Seeing Norm of the North will be a fun way for me to reinforce the message that sometimes the best rewards come from trying something new – whether it’s making new friends, tasting new foods or trying something they may be nervous about.
