When I was younger, I went on a lot of cruises. My friends and I started taking cruises over spring break every year in college and I got hooked. I’ve taken quite a few cruises with friends and family and loved different things about each trip. The following post is sponsored by American Cruise Lines but all opinions are entirely my own.
Now that I am married and the kids are getting older, my interests in cruising have changed a bit.
I still love the idea of cruising, but am not interested in the hectic, crazy party atmosphere that most of the huge cruise ships bring. I’m much more interested in a personalized and more intimate trip now so I’ve started looking at river cruises in the U.S.
River cruises are different from larger cruises in many ways. Instead of long days at sea filled with contests, loud music, kids running around, and non-stop commotion, river cruises provide a much more relaxing and enjoyable experience. There are different themes, locations, and activities on each, so my husband and I will be able to choose the river cruise that interests us the most.
There are many more differences between ocean cruises and river cruises, including ship size and amenities, scenic views, available experiences, and the level of personalized service onboard. Because river cruise ships are smaller, they are able to cruise through narrower passageways so passengers are able to see land at all times. I love the idea of sitting on a peaceful deck and enjoying the different views of water and land instead of constant views of water no matter where I look.
River cruising is also different because the crew and passengers are able to enjoy a more intimate and personal experience. On American Cruise Lines ships, passengers receive an unequaled level of attention from the all-American crew. Each evening, the guests are invited to relax with complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres before dinner. They can mingle with the other passengers or relax with their loved ones. American Cruise Lines allows passengers to set a more enjoyable pace and relax in the casual comfort they prefer.
Although American Cruise Lines ships are smaller and more intimate than larger ships, they still offer the wonderful amenities we enjoy on other ships. American Cruise Lines ships all offer exquisite cuisine created by highly trained chefs. The open seating dining allows passengers to dine where and when they want. Guests are able to relax on private balconies, experiencing unobstructed views and breathtaking scenery from their own staterooms.
Guests onboard American Cruise Lines are able to choose from exciting shore excursions, daily shows and entertainment, and daily lectures about historic landmarks and ports of call. The entire crew is made up of staff from the U.S. who are all familiar with the history and features of the locations along the cruise journey, so they’re able to help create the perfect cruise experience for every guest.
