When I was given the chance to review a basket from the Rwanda Path to Peace project, I wasn’t familiar with them. After reading more about them, I was so touched and inspired that I was honored to be able to review and share them with everyone.
They’re not just beautiful, hand-crafted works of art, these Rwanda baskets are actually changing lives.
The Rwanda Path to Peace is an amazing project that has created a source of sustainable living for thousands of women and their families. The women who weave the baskets are not only able to provide food and clothing for their families, but can now provide access to healthcare and education for their children. The women are gaining power and respect in their families and in their community, which gives them a voice and an active role in the shaping of their futures.
The basket that I received is the Purple Bloom Fruit Bowl. It’s beautiful!
It’s a nice, solid basket with gorgeous, vibrant colors. And it’s so well made; I loved holding it and inspecting it and thinking of the hands that worked so hard to make it. It really is a work of art.
I have it displayed in a cabinet right by the front entrance of the house and love seeing it as I walk in. I love the bowl itself, but even more than that, I love that in a small way I was able to take part in a woman empowering herself and changing her life.
You can purchase your own beautiful Path to Peace bowls exclusively at Macy’s for only $39.99 right now (normally $50). These baskets come with their own Certificate of Authenticity card detailing the project and would make perfect Holiday gifts for your loved ones.
Be sure to read the touching stories about the women who create these beautiful bowls on the Macy’s blog. Learn more about the Path to Peace Project online.
Disclosure: I received a Rwanda Path to Peace fair trades fruit bowl for review purposes only. All opinions are my own.
