Our cat Max has been with my husband longer than I have. She’s about 10 years old and is moving a little slower than she used to. She has lost a lot of weight in the last year and had a few health problems, so we’ve taken her to the vet several times over the past few months. It’s expensive to take her to the vet and get prescriptions filled, but she’s part of the family and we want her to be healthy and comfortable, of course.
Here is Max on a happier day:
Our back yard leads down to a huge area of woods and Max loves to go back and explore during the day. Unfortunately, our neighbor’s cat has started chasing her over the past few months and attacking her. We try to keep Max inside to protect her, but she has always been able to go outside and gets really upset if we won’t let her out. And last week while Max was outside, the neighbor’s cat bit her again. She ended up getting a nasty infection that needed treatment from a vet.
I blurred the infected area because it’s pretty gross, but you can see the raw, injured area on her belly: 🙁
Since we keep having to pay out of pocket for her expensive vet bills and prescriptions, we really needed a way to save some money on them. When I heard about the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club, I thought it might be the perfect thing for us.
Walgreens Prescription Savings Club:
The Walgreens Prescription Savings Club is only $35 for a whole year. That includes my entire family of five and our two cats! And Walgreens guarantees that I’ll save money with the program or I get my money back. So if I haven’t saved at least $35 by the end of the year, Walgreens will refund the difference. There’s no reason for us not to sign up!
I headed to our local Walgreens to learn more and sign our family up.
As soon as I walked in, I headed for the Pharmacy area in the back. There were lots of signs hanging up about the Prescription Savings Plan, but I also wanted to ask the Pharmacist himself about the program.
He gave me a lot of information about the plan, including the prices and coverage, and even gave me a list of prescriptions that are included in the plan. I was also told that I can look up prescriptions any time at the Walgreens website if I want to check coverage and prices before I get prescriptions filled.
I went ahead and signed up for the Family Plan for $35 while putting in the prescription for Max. The Pharmacist said that there is now a record of our plan membership in the computer and that the savings will automatically apply whenever possible. He said they’ll also let me know anytime a generic prescription would apply so I can choose whether or not to switch to generic.
The entire process of signing up only took a few minutes while I was dropping off a prescription. I hope that Max won’t have any more injuries or health problems over the next year, but it’s nice to know that if she needs a prescription we’ll probably be able to spend a lot less next time. And with a family as big as ours, it won’t take long to start saving on prescriptions for someone!
