I have loved every stage of motherhood so much. From letting my little ones hold my fingers with their chubby little hands to take their first steps, to helping them hold a crayon to write their name for the first time, to watching them walk into their first day of kindergarten – when their backpacks were almost bigger than they were. It has been a joy to watch each of them as they grow into their own person.
It seems like every new stage comes with a whole new set of important lessons, so as my girls are approaching their pre-teen years, I knew it was time to start teaching them the importance of taking good care of their skin. With my older daughter taking on daily PE class, daily dance classes and even gymnastic once a week (translation – a whole lot of opportunities to sweat!), I knew now was the time to help her get her own skin care routine started.
I remember my mother taking me to Target as a pre-teen so it almost felt like a right of passage as we headed off to stock up on everything she would need. Truth be told she has been coming in to try out my products, so she was super excited to get products of her own. Yes, even as an adult I still use products like Neutrogena, AVEENO and Clean & Clear because they keep my skin looking and feeling it’s best. I made sure I had my Cartwheel app ready too!
We perused the aisle talking about all of the important steps to a great skin care routine. She is still a preteen so she needed products that are simple and easy and still gentle on her young skin. We started with a great cleanser – Clean & Clear Triple Clear Bubble Foam Cleanser – which will be great whether she wants to use it in the shower after PE class or at home in the morning before school. We also picked out some gorgeous Neutrogena Hydro Boost Lip Shine 60 in Vibrant Raspberry – because everyone needs a little shine!
Before we headed home, I made sure to grab Aveeno Positively Radiant 60 Second In-Shower Facial Cleanser and the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Serum to help keep my winter skin clean, moisturized and protected. Mom wants some awesome pampering products too!
– The Clean & Clear Triple Clear Bubble Foam Cleanser cleans skin and fights breakouts in 3 ways – by removing bad pore clogging oil, by treating breakouts while soothing skin, and by preventing future breakouts. It’s gentle enough for daily use, so the easy-to-use cleansing foam is perfect for tweens just starting a skincare routine.
– The Aveeno Positively Radiant 60 Second In-Shower Facial Cleanser is a quick facial that can be used in the shower 1-2 times a week to help give skin a boost. Made with Active Naturals Total Soy Complex to even skin tone and texture and Lemon Peel Extract to purify the skin, this cleanser works with the steam of the shower to open pores and exfoliates all traces of dirt, oil and dead skin cells, while accelerating surface cell renewal.
– The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Hydrating Serum absorbs instantly and delivers refreshing hydration to address the root cause of dryness for fully hydrated skin that glows from within. The oil-free, non-comedogenic formula contains Purified Hyaluronic Acid, which is naturally found in skin and acts as a sponge for dry skin, moisturizing with up to a 1,000 times its weight in water for skin that stays smooth and supple.
– The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Lip Shine plumps lips making them look smoother & more supple, and the non-sticky formula comes in 8 shades so it’s a light and fun lip color for tweens.
It was such a great trip, and another one of those stages of motherhood that I absolutely loved. Watching my kids grow up and start great habits to keep them safe and healthy make me feel like I am doing pretty ok at this motherhood thing.

I love these gentle cleansing and moisturizing products and would love to get some of these for my daughter. She would love it.
I like that Target offers gift card deals with purchases.
I like to buy skincare products at target
These are amazing skincare products tweens. My 11 year old granddaughter has just had her first blemish. I will share this with her.
I wish someone had taught me better skincare when I was a tween. I learned on my own reading magazines.
I remember my mom teaching me the importance of washing my face before bed!
I buy all of my skincare at Target because between Cartwheel and the sales they run the prices can’t be beat!
This is a good advice for mothers
So great of you to teach your teens these tips! I think I was only told to wash my face but not much extra. I even learned some things from your post for myself 🙂
With Target sales, coupons and cartwheels I can buy my skin care products at a great price
All of these products sound wonderful and the types of products I would love for my granddaughter to try. Which will be within the next year. Oh how fast they grow up….
I had even thought of that. Mom points! I need to start them now, before they don’t listen to me. Lol
I like that Target has these skin care products that I can use coupons on or are on sale.
Great advice on products suitable for tweenies.

I love that there are gentle cleansers out there now, it was so hard to find things when I was a teenager that would help my skin, everything seemed to make everything worse on mine, too many harsh chemicals back in the day! Thanks, I’ll be trying these items for my step daughter!
The Neutrogena Hydro Boost Lip Shine plumps lips making them look smoother & more supple., I need for my thin lips
I try to take good care of my skin.
So important to keeping it looking good.
I buy some of my products at Target.
I grew up using my mom’s Neutrogena, and I still love it and use it.
Good idea to encourage our kids to take care of their skin at a youing age. These products are just the right ones to start a regime for future skincare.
Don’t forget sunscreen!
Thanks for the tips i have a 13 year old that has break outs!
Thanks for the guide on this, skin care is very important.
I have used the Aveeno Positively Radiant 60 Second In-Shower Facial Cleanser and loved it.
Oh these look like such great products. I still have not found a skin care routine for myself that I love. I really want to try the Aveeno Positively Radiant 60 Second In-Shower Facial Cleanser!
the hardest thing ive had to do is teach my tween skin care. it is a fight to juts get her to put lotion on after she showers. she is mxed so her skin is alway reallly dry i try to tel her we have to keep her skin loist she nver listens
My grandma always told me wash your face in twice a day and try not to touch your face often because your hands have a lot of germs. We didn’t have all the things to wash are face like they do now, love Neutrogena products.
These are great products! Thats why they are still around because I used them as a teen and they really work.
Great products… Teens and Adults used to have almost all… thanks for sharing…
I think the products are much better now then when a lot of us were teenagers. More gentle and sensitive for the skin.
My mom didn’t really talk to me about skin care. She did however introduce me to Merle Norman makeup but its so expensive I haven’t used it in decades. There are so many skin care lines available it can get overwhelming trying to figure out what works best.
Target is definitely the go to place for all things skin care related! I love the promotions that they run on Aveeno, Neutrogena, and similar products and I always am sure to stock up when they do. I love to stack my manufacturer coupons, Target coupons, and Cartwheel app to get the best in store price, and then use my rebate apps when I get home.
Thank you for sharing
these are great tips and it is important to keep your skin clean but gently
my Mom never did tell me how to take care of my skin, other than to say ‘wash your face’ lol
Very useful information. Its a struggle to get my kids to wash their faces for some reason
It is important to start proper skin care early in life!
Good ideas. Teenagers should be taking care of their skin before they get old and it’s too late! 🙂
Kids grow up so fast and there is so much you need to teach them.
These are good products.
teaching kids at a young age to take care of their skin will payoff in their old age, with younger looking skin
Such a wonderful post! My girls are 10 and 8 and this hits home. Thanks for the suggestions It also has to help with self-esteem and I love that attribute!
These are great tips! I love all of these products.
