I made these cookies for a friend’s baby shower. My favorite is the little baby girl. π
I’ve been asked by a lot of you which cookie cutters I used. The shoes and baby head were just ovals that I reshaped slightly (with shoe straps and ears bumped out a little). The other cookies were made cookie cutters like these.
Baby Shower Cookie Recipe
Ingredients – Cookies
- 6 cups flour
- 3 tsp. baking powder
- 2 cups unsalted butter
- 2 cups sugar (white granulated)
- 2 eggs
- 2 tsp. vanilla extract, almond or desired flavoring
- 1 tsp. salt
Instructions – Cookies
- Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well. Mix dry ingredients and add a little at a time to butter mixture. Mix until flour is completely incorporated and the dough comes together.
- Chill for 1 to 2 hours
- Roll to desired thickness and cut into desired shapes. I used this set of cookie cutters for most of mine. Bake on ungreased baking sheet at 350 degrees F (176 C) for 8 to 10 minutes or until just beginning to turn brown around the edges. This recipe can make up to 5-dozen 3β³ cookies.
Glaze Icing Ingredients
- 2 lbs of powedered sugar
- 1/3 cup light Karo corn syrup
- 1-2 TBS of clear vanilla and or clear almond extract (or some of both).
- milk or water to adjust consistency
Glaze Icing Instructions
- Mix powdered sugar, corn syrup and flavorings together at a low speed until thoroughly blended without any small pockets of powdered sugar. Do not use high speed or you will end up with bubbles. Divide the icing into smaller amounts for coloring. I use these for coloring icing.
- For thicker icing to use for outlining or writing, add additional powdered sugar until you get the desired consistency.
- For thinner icing to fill in designs, add very small amounts of milk or water until you get the consistency you want.
- Can be stored in the refrigerator for a week, but should be room temperature again before using.
Add outline icings to parchment paper cones or icing bags with tiny tips. Outline the design onto your cookie with the thick icing. Use thinner icing to fill in the design by either spooning small amount in and spreading around or using icing bags to squeeze out and spread around.
Once the cookies are completely dry, go back with the thicker icing and draw on any additional designs or details you like.
Making cookies of your own? I’d love to see them – leave a link! π

Those are adorable! =D
Thank you! π
These are awesome! You are SO good at decorating cookies like this! π
Thank you!
The secret is the added water. π
These are so cute! Cookie decorating is something that I’ve always been scared to attempt because of the icing. I always wondered how people get the icing to look so smooth. Β I’m definitely going to try out a batch soon. Β Great photos also Mickey! I always feel inspired when I stop by your blog. π
Thank you, Amanda! Β π
Let me know how it goes or if you have questions. I’m hoping to make some more this weekend and get step-by-step photos as I go.
I think as long as you get the icing really thick for the outlining and drawing, it’s easy to do because you can really take your time. Your hand might end up sore after squeezing like crazy to get the icing out, lol. Β π
Oh these are too cute! Β The detail is amazing!
Where do you find the baby themed cookie cutters? Would love to do this for my daughter’s upcoming baby shower! Thanks for the tutorial
Thank you!
I used a set like this: http://amzn.to/Zj516M
For the baby head and baby shoes, I just used an oval shape and squeezed out bumps on the side for ears and straps. π

How did you get the cookies onto the sticks? I am hosting a baby shower this weekend and plan on making cookies, cake pops, and chocolate pretzels…The cookies and pretzels will be the favors but I plan on making some extra’s to have on the dessert table. Β Having the cookies on the stick would be really cute since the cake pops are on sticks and the pretzels will be upright too! Β
I slide the sticks in before baking. The dough has to be really thick, though, to be sturdy enough and not break apart.
Good luck with the shower! π
I do some home cookie baking and decorating, we have a similar recipe. π My question is about assembling those cookie bouquets…I have done a few, but am never truly satisfied with the end result. What do you poke them into that is weighted enough to support the cookies? I used raw potatoes with best luck.
Hey Stephanie,
I use really thick styrofoam to hold the sticks down low and then cover that and weigh it all down with those decorative flat marble things (floral marbles).
There are probably better ways, but that has worked for me. π
Thanks!
Mickey
How perishable are the cookies once iced? My shower is on a Wednesday and I wanted to try and make a minimum of 30 dozen over the few days prior, but I don’t want them to go stale.Β
They’ll be fine! The icing helps to seal the cookies so they stay fresh and they’ll be fine at least several days. I’ve bagged them in little individual bags and shipped them or gave them out as favors at parties and they were still great a week later. π
Hi! Started making my cookies last night, following your recipe and the dough isn’t staying together very well when I go to roll it out and then cut. Do you have any suggestions? And also, should I let the cookies cool for any period of time before moving them to cooling racks right after they come out of the oven or just move them immediately? Thanks!Β
I would add a little bit of milk if the dough is too crumbly. Sometimes the dough acts a little differently depending on humidity (or none), the temp inside the kitchen, etc. Also, I should have written this, definitely let them cool a little on the baking pan. They firm up and are a lot sturdier once they’ve cooled, so it’s safer to move them and handle them. π
Thank you so much! Will start icing soon and am terrified so wish me luck! π
I will gonna try to do some today, cookies look awesome no any other words, hopefully i will get great result as well π
Hi for the recipe for cookies,u mentioned flour.is it plain flour that are needed?
Yes, I use all-purpose flour. π
Are any of those cookies iced with fondant?
No, they’re all a very thick glaze icing with confectioner’s sugar. I make an outline and then fill with the same color for a smooth finish, then add details later. The polka dots on the shoes and the pink cheeks on the baby were added while the fill glaze icing was still wet. π
love this
