It’s starting to get chilly here in North Carolina. While I always look forward to getting out my favorite boots and sweaters for fall, I don’t love how quickly it gets cold. It seems like we go from blazing hot to freezing cold in only a few short weeks. I always wish that the fall would hold on a few weeks longer.
Since it’s already colder than I’d like most days, we’ve already begun to transition from warm weather clothes to cold weather ones. From using AC every day to needing the heat every night. And from eating light, chilled meals to making hearty and filling warm ones.
One of our favorite meals to make this time of year is homemade chili. It’s easy to make, tastes delicious, and warms us up even on the coldest of days.
Over the years, I’ve tried different chili recipes and different brands of the ingredients in those recipes until I’ve found one that the entire family absolutely loves.
I hope your family loves it as much as mine.
Easy Homemade Chili Recipe
Ingredients
2 pounds ground beef
2 onions, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons chili powder
2 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons dried oregano
3 (14.5 ounce) cans Hunt’s stewed tomatoes
1 (15 ounce) can Hunt’s tomato sauce
1/2 (10 ounce) can Ro*tel Mild Diced Tomatoes & Green Chilies
1 (15 ounce) can Bush’s kidney beans with liquid
Directions
Combine ground beef, onion, and garlic in large pan. Cook over medium heat until beef is brown, stirring every few minutes. Drain.
Add chili powder, salt, oregano, tomatoes, and tomato sauce, then stir. Break up the tomato chunks while stirring.
Heat to a boil, then reduce heat to simmer and cover. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 1 hour.
Add beans. Simmer, uncovered, for 20 minutes; stir occasionally.
Serve with shredded cheese, sour cream, and/or crackers, if desired.
Enjoy!
The kids and I all love our chili with shredded cheddar cheese and sour cream, but my husband adds jalapeno peppers to his. This recipe is great on its own, but can be a great base if you want to tweak it a bit with your family’s favorite ingredients.
Since I know I’ll be making my chili recipe many times over the fall and winter seasons, I’ve already stocked up on the canned ingredients. I can get all of the ingredients in one easy stop at my local Walmart and be ready whenever the mood for a hot bowl of chili strikes.
