Get Organized – Playroom Solutions

When my husband and I built our house, we knew we wanted a playroom for the kids. I bought a huge shelving unit that I thought would hold all of the kids’ toys and envisioned a clean, open area for playing.

But this is how it always ends up looking:

Random toys on the shelves and in the storage bins. There’s no organization and it’s looks so messy. Plus, since everything is mixed together, it’s almost impossible to find anything.

The kids are responsible for helping clean up the toys that they take out, but they have a hard time knowing where to put everything.

Even when I’ve cleaned the entire playroom and everything looks neat, it only takes a few wrong items placed in each bin before the mess starts all over. If the kids don’t know where to put the toys, they just shove them in randomly.

When I was given the chance to try the Brother P-Touch Label Machine, I knew that the playroom would be a great spot to get organized.

I started by devoting one bin to each type of toy or play item in the playroom. And then I made labels for each shelf or drawer:

All of the small dolls and stuffed animals go in one drawer. The cars, trucks, trains and building supplies go in another:

Books, Puzzles and large toys that stand up by themselves now all have dedicated, labeled areas:

Once each drawer and section was labeled, my kids and I started putting everything away. I could see immediately that the girls found it much easier to clean. Even my toddler son was able to put his cars and trucks away because there was only one bin with cars, instead of them being spread all over.

It seems so simple, but it really worked!

A place for everything and everything in its place, right?

But that place needs to be labeled so we all know the place!

I’m thrilled and can’t wait to label lots of other storage areas in the house. The closet shelves, pantry shelves, kitchen drawers and art center will be easier to keep organized and clean with labels. And since the Brother P-Touch is so easy to use, I can print out the labels in just a few seconds.
