If you’re moving to a new house, a housewarming party is a great way to welcome friends and family into the new home. Whether you decide to stick with close friends and family or to include your new neighbors in the party, your party can be the perfect way to welcome others into your home.
My husband and I built the house that we live in now, staying in a condo in town during the process so we could keep an eye on the work. Once the house was finally ready, we couldn’t wait to invite others into our new home.
Since the house was finally ready at the beginning of December, we decided to combine our housewarming party with a holiday party. We invited mostly friends from the city, but did include the few of our new neighbors that we’d met so far. The party was a lot of fun a great way to let everyone would know where we live and that they should feel comfortable visiting again in the future.
If you’re considering throwing a housewarming party, there are a lot of things to consider. Here are some great tips from EVITE to help make your party a success.
Invitations
Set the tone for the party with your party invitation. You can send this free EVITE invitation or another fun housewarming invitation.
Theme
Decide on the type of party you want to have – dinner party, game night, cocktail party or something more casual during the day. Be sure to consider your home when making the decision, such as how much space is available and whether there is enough seating or standing room in different areas of the house.
Decorations
This is your chance to show off your beautiful new home, so make sure the first impression is a good one. Even if you’re still moving in, try to hide the clutter in a back bedroom or in the garage in order to make the party area more comfortable.
Fresh flowers and pretty candles are an easy way to dress up your living area and to make your new place feel cozy.
Welcome
As you welcome guests into your home, ask them to sign a guest book by the front door. Neighbors who live close-by can also share recommendations on local help, such as cleaning services, plumbers or handymen.
Dishes
Instead of spending time in the kitchen worrying about food, choose room-temp finger foods that can be prepared ahead of time. That way you’ll be able to enjoy spending time with your friends and family.
Drinks
Because a new home is cause for celebration, you may want to serve something special like Champagne or a custom cocktail to commemorate the occasion. Don’t forget to offer nonalcoholic alternatives such as sparkling water, soda or cider as well.
Party Favors
Thank your guests for celebrating your new home by having small party favors for everyone. Whether you make something homemade or use store bought products, sweet treats are always a hit with guest. You can package the treats in clear plastic favor bags or in small food containers (like these from Rubbermaid® Easy Find Lids™). Attach a free printable gift tag with your new address on the back for a personal touch.
