Pink Party Torture Test

I will easily admit that I was the perfect mom… right up until I had children. Nothing quite prepares you for the reality of parenthood and just how difficult – and messy – it really is. And while I am quite proud of just how well I DO keep it together, I know that I couldn’t do it without a whole lot of grace and a few secret weapons.

Recently I got to put one of those secret weapons to the test at my daughter’s birthday party. Let me first say that anyone who thinks the “birthday mess” ends at toddlerhood with the smashing of the birthday cake has obviously never had a living room full of little girls.

Pink Party

My daughter’s favorite color since birth has been pink so we headed up to Walmart to grab everything we needed for this “pretty in pink” party. We went all out with pink cups, plates, decorations – even the food was pink!

In addition to all of the pink food she wanted pink games, pink makeup, pink party favors… do you see my point about messy birthdays only getting STARTED at toddlerhood?! The more she tossed into the cart, the more potential I saw for an enormous mess in my house.

The kids all helped me decorate for the party on the big day. We had friends and family join the celebration and my daughter had a smile on her face for three hours. I call that a success!

But the end of the party was where my secret weapon came in – when it was clean-up time. With sticky ice cream drippings, cupcake frosting everywhere, used party decorations, tablecloths, and so many other items to clean, I didn’t want more work. I just wanted to clean it all up in minutes and sit down. For a loooong time.
