The Rio 2016 Olympic Games are in full swing and our family has been cheering daily for Team USA. The games aren’t just sports events in our family; they’re wonderful ways to teach positive values and ethics too. From sportsmanship and working tirelessly to achieve goals, to winning and losing gracefully, there are so many wonderful aspects of the Olympic Games to enjoy in addition to the amazing athletic feats.
My husband and I try to instill those same positive qualities in our children at home. One of the ways that we’ve been able to do that is by encouraging our children to all play team sports. Each of the three children plays at least one team sport each season and often will do two or three if time allows. We love that they’re all getting great exercise and having fun while they’re learning important life lessons at the same time.
This summer, my oldest daughter and I have had a ball (see what I did there?) watch April Ross playing beach volleyball for Team USA. April is an amazing athlete – powerful, fast, and the epitome of a team player. Since both of my daughters have started playing volleyball, it’s especially exciting for them to see April play. The girls have been watching the volleyball games together and talking about the awesome moves they see.
We’ve all loved cheering April and Kerri on as they’ve dominated the competition and inspired young girls across the country!
