One of my favorite school classes when I was growing up was art. Now that I’m a mom, it’s fun to see my kids loving arts and crafts as much as I did. In addition to the fun projects they get to work on in school, we also love to do a lot of crafts and DIY projects at home.
Since they go to a year-round school, my kids headed back to class a few weeks ago. Now that those hectic first weeks are out of the way, we’re starting to get into the swing of things and have a little more time for fun projects. This week, we decided to put together some fun DIY drawer organizers. The girls both wanted to get their bedroom desks organized so they’d have more room for homework, so the drawer organizers will be a great way to help them store their pencils, paper clips, scissors and other school supplies.
To get started, we gathered the empty boxes we had around the house. Both of my daughters used my make-up subscription boxes for their project (birchbox and boxy charm are great sizes). Since they took all of my “good” boxes, I hunted around for boxes to use in my own office. I ended up using some small gift boxes from the dollar store that I’ve had around for months but never ended up using. The boxes were all the same height but different sizes, so they worked perfectly for the project.
Easy and Inexpensive DIY Drawer Organizer
1. Find small boxes or containers that fit together well in the drawer you want to organize. Small subscription boxes and dollar store boxes work well.
2. Grab your favorite design of Duck Tape and cover the inside of each box. I used the Baroque design on mine project, while my daughters used Daisy and Ikat Tie Dye.
3. Once the boxes are all covered, use thin pieces of the Duck Tape to tape the boxes together so they fit well in the drawer. I put pieces of tape across the top where the boxes came together, folding the tape down into one box on one side and the other side of the tape down into the other box on the other side.
4. Add a few pieces of tape across the bottom of the boxes to help stabilize the group.
That’s it! So easy and the result is awesome!

Isn’t it awesome? I LOVE it!
I loved doing this project with my daughters because it was a DIY project that we all wanted to do. Their organizers were the perfect back-to-school DIY project to get them excited about doing homework and I love having my home office drawers more organized. Such a fun DIY!
