I love the holidays! This time of year always makes me happy and thankful for what I have. I enjoy putting up decorations, sending Christmas cards to friends and family, and choosing presents for everyone on my gift list.
During this time of year, I’m especially aware of how blessed I am. I have a warm and safe house to live in, a kind and loving husband, and three wonderful children. Because I’m thankful for what I have, I feel it’s important to help give to others.
One of my favorite ways to donate is to help military families. We have a lot of military in our extended family, so I know firsthand how difficult it can be for some of the families during the holidays. It’s important for me to teach my children generosity and kindness, and it’s a wonderful way for me to say “thanks” for everything that the military does for our great country.
And I have the perfect way to do that this year.

The Sing to Salute Military Families Campaign
Walmart has kicked off an awesome campaign this year that makes it easy to thank our military families. With an amazing $500,000 donation to Fisher House Foundation, Walmart kicked off their Sing to Salute Military Families campaign. Over the course of the campaign, we have the ability to increase that donation by another $500,000, for a total donation of 1 million dollars to Fisher House Foundation!
How You Can Help
It’s easy! To join the campaign, just follow these simple steps and Walmart will donate another $100 to Fisher House.
1. Create a short video of one or more individuals singing a portion of a classic holiday song.
2. Share your video before December 22, 2015 on a public Instagram, Twitter or YouTube account with the hashtag #Sing2Salute. If you post on YouTube, be sure to add the hashtag to your video title and the post description.
3. If you want, tag a friend and call on them to participate.
That’s it! The easiest $100 you ever helped donate, right?
Here is our video: (Please excuse the shrieking birds in the background. It sounds like a rainforest behind our house!)

Fisher House Foundation
Fisher Houses are a home-away-from-home for sick or injured military and veterans’ families. There are 60 different houses across the U.S. that provide homes for military families when a service member is in the hospital for an extended period of time.
The Sing to Salute Military Families campaign was created with the goal of raising enough money to fund an entire year of lodging at Fisher Houses.
Walmart has also committed to hire at least 250,000 veterans by 2020 in the Veterans Welcome Home Commitment. Through this program, they recently hired their 100,000th veteran and have committed $20 million in grants to organizations that provide veteran job training, education and community-based collaboration.
This is a cause that is near and dear to my heart and I can’t imagine a better way to give this holiday season!
Please join us! Grab a friend, have the kids join in, or show off your own singing skills. Be sure to share your #Sing2Salute video, and if you want, retweet some others. You’ll be making a big difference in some very special lives.

I have a lot of military in my family and this is a great way to help them feel the holiday spirit and help a great cause.
Great idea was a military wife and military grandmom for three of my sons and their families and I know that it is rough to make ends met, they are all healthy and out of service now but it is important for us to remember those who are still serving our United States, Ilove your little boy singing Jingle Bells
I’m not a singer, but this is such a wonderful heartwarming idea
What a wonderful idea! I really think the military families deserve something like this for the sacrifices they made for us!
I truly don’t think the military gets the thanks it deserves. We donate every year no matter big or small to help out veterans. This is a wonderful program. Thank you
